CASE STUDY

Controlling energy reduction on a national scale

Client: Ignite Energy
Brief: Pets at Home BMS Rollout

Pets at Home is the UK’s leading pet care business. The pet care business was concerned with the excessive cost of energy being wasted in its stores. Ignite Energy were tasked with reducing energy consumption and lowering maintenance costs in 480 Pets at Home stores across the UK.

Key Points About the Project

Pets At Home Logo
40% energy saving
Considerable decrease in maintenance costs
Higher levels of comfort for customers & staff
Dramatically enhanced illumination

PROBLEM

Poor control of heating, air conditioning and lighting was resulting in excessive energy consumption. To solve this problem, Ignite Energy designed an integrated internal control system to lower energy consumption across all sites with assistance from SEI.

SOLUTION

In order to meet the brief SEI not only designed and manufactured all 480 control panels, but we also installed and commissioned these control systems in 180 stores. Other works undertaken by SEI was to remove all light fittings front of house in 180 stores and installed smart lighting control. We also changed every lamp and fitting back of house and replaced it with an energy efficient fitting.

The SEI team completed each store in a tight one-week timeframe, including nightwork, so as not to impact on the company’s revenue and sales. Pet welfare was of paramount importance and our team worked closely with Pets at Home staff to ensure it was maintained throughout the project.

RESULTS

The project was a massive success and achieved energy reductions of 40%, plus a considerable decrease in maintenance costs. Better control of heating and air conditioning has resulted in higher levels of comfort throughout the Pets at Home stores. The new lighting provides dramatically enhanced illumination, a better working environment in the offices and on the sales floor, and improved customer areas.

Designing stress-free solutions for luxury builds

Client: Beauty and the Bistro is a brand new £1.3 million luxury beauty salon and bistro.
Brief: The client had a strong vision of what they wanted to achieve – to create a luxury oasis in the middle of Stoke-on-Trent.

Key Points About the Project

Beauty & The Bistro Logo
Complete design and install service fully in-house
Programmable heating and lighting system
Safely maximised the building’s occupation
Installed open protocol systems with no restrictions

PROBLEM

They were struggling with how to make their vision a reality. They had spoken to several individual specialists but were only left confused.

SOLUTION

Thanks to the varied skillset and wealth of knowledge of the SEI team, we were able to offer the client a complete mechanical and electrical services solution. This meant Beauty and the Bistro only had to deal with one company rather than several different contractors.

Starting with clear advice and guidance, our team provided high quality design, supply, installation and testing, ensuring the building was compliant with all relevant legislation. All systems are compatible and best value for money. Liaising with the main contractor and quantity surveyor was essential to ensure project objectives, such as sustainability, were met.

RESULTS

The heating and lighting system was programmable to achieve the required ambiance in both the spa and bistro. The data provision enabled audio and visual distribution throughout the building. We designed and installed a security system that restricted access to certain areas to ensure safety and privacy. Offering guidance throughout the project, we were available to help the client overcome potential issues.

We dealt with the utilities companies and worked with building control to demonstrate that we could safely maximise the building’s occupation. SEI is also providing the client with an ongoing call-out and maintenance package. For fairness, we opted for an open protocol system, meaning that the client is not restricted and is able to choose any electrical contractor to upgrade or maintain their systems.
